May Moments: From Little Visitors to Big Transitions
Hello Fitchburg friends and neighbors,
May has been a month full of fresh starts, warm welcomes, and even a few pancakes! From committee transitions to community projects, there’s so much to celebrate and share. Here’s a quick recap of what’s been happening around the city, and how your local leaders (and their kids!) have been getting involved.
Coffee with the Police Chief – April 22
Building relationships and trust remains a top priority. On April 22, I had the chance to sit down with Chief Coshun for Coffee with the Police Chief, where we discussed everything from community policing to youth engagement. It was an open, thoughtful conversation—and a good cup of coffee too.
Take Your Kids to Work Day – April 24
City Hall and the Police Station got a little extra energy last month when we welcomed some of our youngest community members for Take Your Kids to Work Day. It was a great opportunity to show the next generation what public service looks like from council chambers to squad cars.
At the Fitchburg Police Station, kids learned about the tools and teamwork it takes to keep our neighborhoods safe. Officers answered questions, gave tours, and even got a guest appearance of an official Police K-9!
Kids got a behind-the-scenes look at the tools and big trucks that help keep our city running smoothly every day.
Back at City Hall, they got to sit in the big chairs and explore how local government works. Seeing their curiosity and excitement was a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do, to build a future worth leading.
Pancake Breakfast with Seniors – April 27
The intergenerational fun continued just a few days later at the Pancake Breakfast with Seniors. We shared stories, laughter, and lots of syrup. Events like this remind us how vital our senior community is to the fabric of Fitchburg and how much we all gain when generations connect.
Greenfield Neighborhood Project – April 29
The Greenfield neighborhood is buzzing with activity as new community projects take shape. On April 29, I visited the site to connect with residents and learn more about how city investments are making a difference in their day-to-day lives. It's another great example of neighborhood-level work driving citywide impact.
Committee Transitions
With the new council year in full swing, I’ve officially transitioned off the Agricultural & Rural Affairs and Tree Advisory Committees, two groups I was proud to serve on.
I’ve now been onboarded to the Fire & EMS Committee and CEDA (Community and Economic Development Authority). These roles will allow me to focus more directly on public safety, economic resilience, and long-term planning, critical areas as Fitchburg continues to grow.
EMS Ride-Along – Coming Soon!
Later this summer, I’ll be participating in a ride-along with the Fitchburg EMS team, coordinated with Chief Anderson through the Fire & EMS Committee. I’m looking forward to seeing firsthand how our emergency responders work—and how we can better support their mission from the policy side. Stay tuned!
Thanks for staying engaged, Fitchburg. Whether you’re attending a city meeting, planting a tree, or sharing breakfast with your neighbors, your involvement helps shape a stronger, more connected community.
Let’s keep showing up, together.
